Fujitsu Ductless Installation For A Hackettstown NJ Home

With the upcoming summer right around the corner, the Bartkus family knew they needed to spring into action. They purchased their home without a central AC system. Consequently, the Bartkus family has been using window air conditioning units during the hot summer months. However, by the end of last summer, they decided that they didn’t want to deal with the hassle of using window AC units again due to the hassle, lack of comfort and noise.

They called Skylands Energy to discuss cooling solutions for their home. One of our expert heating and cooling technicians, George Lauck, went to their home. He recommended that they install a Fujitsu mini-split ductless system for their cape-style Hackettstown NJ home.

Problem: The Bartkus household dreaded the idea of using their window air conditioners for another summer. They were tired of paying the high energy costs that come with using these units. Additionally, they wanted a more comfortable and quiet air conditioning solution.

Solution: Skylands Energy installed a ductless mini-split cooling & heating system in their home. There home now has three Fujitsu indoor units and one outdoor compressor, model AOU36RLXFZ1. The three indoor units (two AUU9RLF models and one ASU18RLF model) will comfortably cool or heat their entire home.

Fujitsu Ductless Mini-Split Systems

FujitsuSkylands Energy installed three Fujitsu ductless indoor units at the Bartkus home. Two units were placed upstairs and one downstairs. All three of these units connected to one outdoor compressor.

Fujitsu manufactures some of the best ductless systems available in the heating and cooling industry. They are reliable, perform well, and are extremely energy efficient. They are a great choice to use as a supplemental heating and cooling source for frequently used rooms. They also work well in homes without ductwork or in additions where the existing ductwork will not extend. Below are some of the features that these models offer:

Fujitsu AUU9RLF – 9K BTU (3/4 Ton ), Flex Compact Cassette Mount Heat Pump Air Handler

This model features many aspects that any homeowner would appreciate. It can heat and cool a room. It is energy efficient. Also, this indoor unit is able to distribute air evenly across a room or zone. It offers a 2-stage turbofan. Some additional features include:

  • Wireless remote
  • 5-year warranty on parts but can be eligible for a 10-year or 12-year warranty
  • Sleep timer and 7-day programmability, ensuring energy efficiency
  • AHRI and Energy Star rated
  • Dry mode for humidity control. This feature dehumidifies your zone.
  • Environmentally friendly using R410a refrigerant

Fujitsu 18k BTU Wall Mounted Unit Model: ASU18RLF

fujitsu ASU18RLF ductless unitThis wall-mounted unit was placed in the downstairs area of the Bartkus home. The unit was installed in the area that they spend the most time in although it will provide comfort to their entire downstairs area. This particular model provides cooling, heating, and dehumidification options for year-round comfort. It offers an advanced filtration system, improving the indoor air quality of their home. Some other features that they will be able to enjoy include:

Fujitsu Ductless Installation

The beauty of Fujitsu ductless systems is that they offer flexible setup options. They enable a homeowner to add units later if they choose to. They also allow for ceiling-mounted units or wall-mounted units. In the case of the Bartkus home, we installed 3 indoor units. Two of these units were ceiling cassette models (Fujitsu AUU9RLF) which we installed in the master bedroom and the upstairs hallway. The third, we installed downstairs (Fujitsu ASU18RLF). This third model is a wall-mounted unit. It has the capacity to cool or heat the entire downstairs area of their home.

The Bartkus family is extremely pleased with their investment. They are impressed on how quiet this system is, especially after dealing with noisy window units. They enjoy how cool their home is and how their home has an even temperature. They are also happy that they won’t have to pay astronomical energy bills this summer and that they will have the ability to use their money elsewhere.

Fujitsu units pay for themselves in reduced heating and cooling costs. The initial investment for the Bartkus home was roughly $12,500, including parts and labor. Electrical upgrades were not included in the price of the job. The electrical work was performed by a licensed electrician, which cost approximately $800. With the added comfort and ease of installing the cassette units, the Bartkus household paid for a carpenter to round out the ceiling. Overall, this investment improves their property value, adds comfort, and improves their monthly energy use and costs.

Why Ductless Systems Are Better Than Window Air Conditioners

window air conditionerIf your home is not currently fitted with a system of ducts to carry conditioned air for central air conditioning, you’re more than likely going to have to find an alternative method of cooling your home. Installing ductwork in an existing home can be a significant construction project that is often cost prohibitive. For many years, many homeowners believed that the best solution to cool a house without central AC was to install window air conditioners. However, with the latest technology in ductless cooling systems, these window units are obviously not the best solution.

Window AC Disadvantages

Window air conditioners have many disadvantages over ductless systems. For example, a window air conditioner not only obstructs the view from your window, but it can also pose a significant security issue. The window air conditioner is placed in an open window, leaving your home vulnerable to intruders. Additionally, window air conditioners are often loud and can be expensive to run over the course of the cooling season. Fortunately, ductless systems or mini-split systems have eliminated many of these concerns and are capable of meeting your cooling needs without the problems often associated with window air conditioning units.

Ductless Mini-Splits

Today’s ductless systems are sleek and compact, requiring very little room for the indoor unit. Additionally, because the outdoor condensing unit is located outdoors and away from your living area, a ductless system is extremely quiet. Of course, another excellent advantage in choosing a ductless or mini-split system over a window unit is the fact that ductless air conditioners are typically much more energy efficient. This means that you’ll usually save money cooling your home; definitely a bonus for budget-conscious homeowners. They provide heating options, giving them the capacity to provide a home with year-round comfort. In addition to lower cooling costs, ductless systems will generally outlast a window unit, helping you to save even more money because you won’t have to deal with frequent replacement costs.

Unobtrusive Design

While saving money is a key advantage in choosing ductless systems, these units also tend to look much nicer and will conform better to your home environment. The indoor unit is much more discreet and doesn’t have the obtrusive look of a big air conditioning unit taking up the window. The indoor unit of a ductless system can be mounted on the wall, either up near the ceiling, or lower on the wall; whatever works best for your home. This helps ensure there is no unsightly obstruction and your windows are clear, leaving natural sunlight to shine through. Additionally, a mini-split system also doesn’t take up any floor space, so it’s incredibly compact and can easily blend into your room’s decor.

Comfort Control

Another important consideration when deciding if a window air conditioner or ductless system is right for you is the level of comfort each cooling system can provide. If you’ve ever used a window air conditioner, you’ve probably experienced the difficulty in trying to maintain a comfortable temperature. The reason window units usually don’t provide consistent comfort is that they often run too long before cycling off, leaving the room too cold. The constant cycling on and off, typically creates an inconsistent temperature, making it hard to be comfortable. In fact, it’s not unusual for homeowners to complain that their window unit never provides a comfortable environment. However, with a ductless or mini-split system, you can set the temperature that you prefer, and the system will automatically adjust to maintain your selected comfort level.

With quiet operation, better energy efficiency, and improved comfort and design, it’s easy to see why many homeowners are choosing a ductless air conditioner for their home’s comfort.

Review of Skylands Energy

I've been meaning to get to this for almost 2 weeks now. So, here goes... Just over 2 weeks ago, I had to hit the reset button on our oil burning boiler at least three times to get it to start up and heat our house. This past Monday, January 13, 2019, after the third time, and then a fourth, it would only stay on for about a minute - not good when the outside temperature is 16 degrees! Certainly, during this time of the year, I'm sure calls for emergency repairs on heating systems are through the roof. As a side note, I had some plans to go away to Florida at the end of the week for a few days. Because my heating system is probably over 40 years old, I needed to get this issue taken care of and not have to worry about it going out again while I was away. I never had my pipes freeze before and I didn't want this to be the first time. Having made several calls over about an hour and only getting answering machines, I finally got a live response with Keisha (spelling?) at Skylands. After explaining my situation to her, she then told me what their hourly rates were. It was a bit high in my opinion - and I believe these were their regular rates. I was then told that Larry was in our area and could be here shortly. As it was starting to get a bit chilly in the house, and nobody else had gotten back to me at this point, I asked if they would stop by. Sure enough, within about 30 minutes, I got a call from Larry who said he would be over shortly. Indeed, he did stop by - probably about 30 minutes later. Normally, when someone stops by to help service something, I tend to keep the conversations short - I explain what the problem is, then step away so they can do their work uninterrupted. In this case, perhaps because I was a little wound up by this particular experience, I found myself engaging with Larry a little more than usual. As we chatted a little bit about what was going on, I can honestly say that Larry had a very pleasant demeanor. As he began his work, it was obvious that Larry had quite a bit of experience as well. He clearly pointed out the problems and explained honestly and clearly what needed to be done to fix them. In my case, having an oil burner, I needed a couple new electrodes, nozzle, filter, and a good cleaning. When he was done, the burner fired up right away and stayed on - like it should. For the next few days, everything seemed to be back to normal. At the end of the week, I went on my Florida trip. While the thought of the burner going out again did cross my mind, I'm happy to say I came back a few days later to no issues. The burner keeps firing up like it should - quietly and reliably. Well done.
